“Thank you to all the artists who came along yesterday to our ‘artist’s archive day’ here at the SOC headquarters.

The day was organised in collaboration with @visualartsscotland and was designed to give artists the opportunity to explore the extensive ornithological collections here at the SOC. We hope that all the artists left suitably inspired to make their artwork submissions for the open call exhibition ‘Natural Collection’ (closing date 28 February).

During the day, our SOC librarian Rosie, treated everyone to a talk and tour of the archives. The artists were then able to explore the artifacts and records in more detail. Some of the highlights, included beautiful sketchbooks from the 1940’s and 50’s by Donald Watson, as well as a collection of his childhood sketches.
