The Engine is a painting-led series that combines large-scale oil paintings with AR, writing and narrative animation to construct a symbolic world exploring systems of power, order, and transformation. At its core is the fictional realm of the Clockwork Court, a mechanised civilisation that operates as an allegory for human attempts to impose structure, meaning, and belief within unstable technological and economic systems.
The paintings draw on myth, religious symbolism, and mechanical imagery to examine the tension between creation and entropy, control and collapse, faith and rationalism. While the physical paintings function as the primary artefacts, selected works extend into animated and narrative forms that deepen their symbolic and conceptual framework.
Rather than illustrating a fixed story, The Engine presents an evolving mythos in which painting, narrative, and digital processes operate together. The series forms a significant stage in the artist’s ongoing investigation into how traditional painting can engage with contemporary technological culture while retaining material presence, craft, and symbolic depth.
