Partnership Exhibition: Scottish Ornithologists' Club

Sep 18th 2023

Visual Arts Scotland is delighted to announce a new partnership exhibition with the Scottish Ornithologists' Club (SOC) which will take place in Aberlady, summer 2024. SOC promotes the study, protection and enjoyment of wild birds in Scotland and encourages the general public to develop their interest through a number of activities such as guided walks, talks, art exhibitions, as well as an informative welcome from staff at the centre in Aberlady.

This partnership exhibition will use birds as its primary focus and starting point, a prism by which artists can explore a myriad of ideas. Whether it be mythology, symbolism, folklore, song, flight, superstition or habitat, birds have always had the ability to stimulate wonder in us and we look forward to seeing the new work they inspire.

Submissions will open in early 2024 and we will welcome applications from the breadth of VAS membership, from fine to applied arts and crafts. However, prior to applying for this exhibition, VAS members are invited to access the SOC archives and resources in advance of the open call. This opportunity affords artists the chance to view the exhibition site and make new work in response to their experience and research. Note that there may be an opportunity to use the outside garden space for external sculptures or performances so it is worth seeing the space if possible.

SOC are offering 2 free unique events for VAS members considering contributing to this exhibition.
