It's been just over a month since our exhibition Now and Then: Dalkeith Palace came to an end and we've been reflecting on what a success it was. Over 300 artists and art enthusiasts visited the opening night and numbers continued to soar throughout the duration of the exhibition, with raving reviews coming in from STV, The Scotsman, and Edinburgh Evening News. Dalkeith Palace: Now and Then (Part 2) followed our successful Part One exhibition which took place in Edinburgh’s Royal Scottish Academy which showcased 242 artists and over 300 contemporary artworks.

Both these exhibitions bookend a year of centenary celebrations as 2024 marks 100 years since Visual Arts Scotland was founded. The organisation began as the Scottish Society of Women Artists in 1924 with the aim to empower women after their contribution to the war effort. Today, we’re known as Visual Arts Scotland and we’ve spent the past couple of months celebrating our centenary through art fairs, archival reflections, residencies, aswell as our exhibitions of which we've had four this year.

Our centenary year will conclude with our AGM meeting which takes place on the 24th of November - an exact 100 years from the date that the first ever Visual Arts Scotland meeting was held in 1924. During this AGM, we'll reflect on our successful year, but also look ahead to 2025 and how we can better support out VAS members.
