Location: Galashiels

Materials: Felting
Marnie Collins is an award winning textile artist, based in the Scottish Borders, who specialises in expressionist felt art. Expressing her inner-child’s sense of wonderment, playfulness and fearlessness, Marnie’s art pieces are intended to emit joy, delight and intrigue. Large or small, her art pieces are highly impactful, perfect for spaces which occupy centre stage and deserve a talking point. Marnie has a passion for felt painting, which she finds to be ‘an exciting mixture of premeditation and unpredictability’, much like her Scottish habitat. Her ‘Painting with Wool’ process involves both wet and dry needle felting

Previous Experience

Having studied textiles internationally at both the Philadelphia and the Scottish College of Textiles, Marnie began her professional career as a textile designer (woven textiles specialism) in NYC.. She co-founded a sustainable hand-painted wallpaper company, Decoupage, (1991) based in the Scottish Borders, selling her design internationally for 30 years. Focussing on high end interiors, Marnie has worked on high profile commissions including the Opera House (Budapest) and Philip Treacy’s “G” Hotel (Ireland). Marnie has been working as a lecturer in textile design at Heriot Watt University since 2003. She is currently programme director and has recently pivoted into textile art with the start of her expressive felt art business in 2025. Marnie has several up and coming exhibitions of her felt art including: “Exuberance” and Inspired Landscapes” Collections at Old Gala House, Galashiels (June 13th-July 24th 2026) and “Bernat Klein: A tribute” collaborative exhibition at the Tangled Festival,(Galashiels, May 2026).
