Marianne is an award-winning botanical artist, with original works in various specialist collections. She studied Botanical Illustration at the Royal Botanic Garden Edinburgh, and produces work for exhibition with the Open Eye Gallery and for commission. She works from her garden and studio in an old cottage on the side of the Pentland Hills, where she creates modern botanical illustrations in various media, specializing in detail, and presenting structure and pattern. Marianne collects and grows her specimens and subject matter. In 2024 she had a Hugo Burge Foundation residency where she connected with the birthplace and home of one of her main inspirations, the celebrated artist Rory McEwen, and she is currently working on pieces inspired by Rory, commissioned by Hugo. Marianne puts her background in graphic design to good use in her compositions, which challenge the traditional norms of botanical illustration. This was recognised recently when she was awarded an Exhibiting Excellence in Contemporary Art award, the Branded Mark award and the Making a Mark award at Plantae 25, the Society of Botanical Artists annual exhibition in London. She has recently been experimenting with printing her meticulous watercolour and ink works onto fabrics and wallpapers. She has a range of cushions, scarves and tote bags which combine her love of pop art, colour and design with her illustration skills. She also sells hand-pulled screen prints, limited edition giclee prints and a range of greetings cards.
