Lisa grew up in rural Sweden before moving to London and then Wales to study art, graduating with an Honours degree in Fine art from the University of Wales, Cardiff. She moved on to find her long-term home in Leith, Edinburgh. ‘My practice consists of painting and drawing, and various types of print making and stencilling. I have since moving to the UK always engaged with concepts of ‘belonging’ and ‘home’ in various forms. The natural environments in rural Sweden where I grew up, alongside those of my Scottish home – from urban green spaces to the inner hebrides and the highlands – allow me to make connections and gives a sense of belonging across places and times. I aim to evoke some of the melancholy of evergreen conifer forests; the fragile transient energy of seasonal plants; and the change of the seasons in ancient landscapes. Those landscapes are also rooted in the history of their people: In particular stories of emigration interest me, and finding links between Scottish rural landscapes, and the place where I grew up. Birds often come to signify migration and the contrasts between displacement, shared purpose, and belonging to the land.
