Joanna Wilson is a contemporary artist based in the Highlands of Scotland whose practice spans painting, installation and material-led work. Exploring the space between chaos and control, she investigates the unseen systems of the natural, technological and metaphysical worlds, questioning how they shape perception and our understanding of reality. Through intuitive processes, carefully considered structures and the transformation of discarded materials, her work invites viewers to consider where intuition meets structure and where the boundary between the artificial and the real begins to dissolve. Joanna studied at Edinburgh College of Art and Wimbledon School of Art before undertaking further study at Yale University through a scholarship. She has collaborated with institutions including the Hayward Gallery and the Royal Albert Hall, and her work has been recognised through numerous awards, exhibited widely, and is held in public and private collections. A Featured Artist on Saatchi Art, she is also the founder and director of OPENSPACE | THE VAULT, a contemporary art gallery in Grantown-on-Spey. Alongside her studio practice, Joanna is co-founder and co-lead of Grantown Open Studios, championing contemporary art through exhibitions, collaboration and community-led initiatives.
