Janet

Melrose

Disciplines: Painting

Location: Crieff

Materials: Found, Objects, Watercolour
Janet draws upon memories from childhood. She uses memory to act as a catalyst to open up conversations about how materials degrade overtime. She makes paintings, drawings and sculptures which use a repetitive intuitive and at times lengthy process of building up work only to deconstruct it. Her work acts as a personal archive; away of distilling and understanding her own time line through inherited objects, family photographs and recently as Artist in residence with Remake Scotland. In 2023 Janet took the opportunity to rethink her practice. She took a two year Contemporary Art Practice Course which enabled her to think, respond and make changes to her art practice. She is currently working towards a solo exhibition ‘ Dust is an Archive,’ in 2026
