Allan

Disciplines: Sculpture

Location: Clarkston

Materials: Assemblage, Casting, Found, Objects
Alex Allan has a broad studio practice which takes in myriad of different media and means of production. Several projects spanning multiple art forms run concurrently and help to push each other along. There is a constant processing of materials, many recovered from the streets; items that are often abandoned at the sides of the road, or snuggled amongst the undergrowth waiting to be taken back and included in his playful approach to making work. Using what’s to hand since 1986, Alex’s work acts as a type of real-time filter for our material culture, continually propped up by the basal urban surroundings of his upbringing.

Previous Experience

Alex graduated with an MFA in Sculpture from Edinburgh College of Art in 2011. More recently he has been engaged in a number of public art commissions and is co-founder and operator of Govan Project Space in Glasgow, where he lives and works. Alex twins his studio practice with his love of teaching by providing creative skills-based learning opportunities for young people with additional support needs and runs sculptural school workshops.
