Having grown up on the remote island of Fair Isle and now living and working in Shetland, I have a close connection with the coastal environment and dramatic weather experienced in these islands.
About my artwork:
While walking the coastline of Shetland I make quick responses to the landscape in my sketchbook, recording the land and sea as I see it, while also collecting natural and man-made objects, natural objects such as seaweed which I dry and press along with man-made objects including marine litter, small pieces of plastic, netting and rope, following on from walking and sketching the coastline, I develop my quick sketches into relief prints adding texture from the objects gathered on my wanders, layering imagery and objects that reflect the Shetland landscape.
Experimenting with various different printmaking techniques and mediums, incorporating contemporary textiles and sculpture.
