'Imprints' is a graduate collection of one-off interiors pieces, inspired by the overlooked spaces in our everyday environment. Capturing marks left behind by people and time: the eroded grooves in a pavement; the subtle colour bleed of a rain washed wall; the repeating pattern found on a drain cover. These spaces have been explored on cloth through an instinctual process, led by making. This has allowed the designs to evolve freely while retaining connection to the inspiration they were first derived from. Through exploring the quilts of Gees Bend, I was inspired by their striking visual impact, contrasted with the subtlety in which they can tell a story of the past; people and place. Patchwork mirrors the mis-matched composition of pavement slabs. The stitching together of complimentary and contrasting blocks highlighting the beauty in the mundane and seemingly unremarkable details.
