This collection explores rituals of memory focused around the paper-making town of Penicuik, a landscape which is deeply rooted in my personal history. Through the development of physical artefacts, I consider how a deeper connection with the landscape can ground our sense of place within the wider world.

Paper, clay, copper, eggshell and colour pigment, are all earth-bound materials carrying their own narratives and tied to my experience of this special landscape. Through essential processes, the materials share their life cycle, bearing the evidence of interaction, celebrating imperfection, and honouring the passing of time.

Vitreous enamel is at the core of my studio practice through which I express my connection to the landscape in pattern, texture, and colour. By embracing an experimental approach, ‘trusting the process’ and leaning into the serendipity of enamelling, my pieces reflect a ‘letting go’ of control and the necessity to always search for perfection. The result is a series of Memory Vessels which connect with the viewer enabling everyone to reflect on their own life journey.
