The Inches Carr Award has a rich history of recognising and supporting exceptional contemporary artists. The award was established in 1995 following the deaths of Deirdre Inches and Malcolm Carr, with the intention of creating a lasting legacy in their memory. Reflecting their interests in music and the decorative arts, the award has since helped foster the development of emerging and mid-career artists. Following the winding down of the Inches Carr Trust in 2021, Visual Arts Scotland has become the custodian of the award, and 2025 will mark the final awarding year.

Moving forward, we are pleased to announce that the next exhibition will take place at Dalkeith Palace, a stunning venue that provides an alternative backdrop for the works of the final shortlisted artists. The exhibition, which is a part of our Micro Exhibition Series ‘Assemblage’, will be open to the public from the 15th to the 17th of August alongside the Artist Maker Market, VAS Graduate Showcase, VAS 30×30 and ‘Holding Conversations’.

The installation for this exhibition is 11-4pm on 14th of August at Dalkeith Palace. Deinstall and collection is Sunday 17th 4.45pm-6.45pm. This is an exciting opportunity to present your work to a diverse audience, including collectors, curators, and art lovers, and to be part of an event that celebrates the vitality of contemporary art and contemporary craft in Scotland alongside over 140 Artists and Makers.
