Edge of matter Exhibition celebrates emerging talent and diverse artistic voices.
The paper Factor Edinburgh, 25th-28th September: Edge of Matter, is a dynamic
new exhibition and collaboration between Visual Arts Scotland and Hidden
Door, showcasing the work of 22 visual arts Scotland shortlisted graduates 2025
and 16 of Hidden Door’s emerging artists, with thought provoking and
inspirational work of storytelling, loss, identity and the exploration between the
poetic and the humorous.

This landmark exhibition brings together a fresh wave of creative voices whose
work speaks to both personal and collective experience. From deeply moving
reflections on memory and absence to sharp and playful interpretations of
modern life, Edge of Matter offers a broad and compelling look at the next
generation of artistic talent.

The collaboration between Visual Arts Scotland and Hidden Door grew out of a
recognition that the creative sector needs to work more collegiality to support
artists, particularly those at the start of their careers, in order to safeguard the
future of creative talent in Scotland.

VAS President Tavienne Bridgwater says, ‘This exhibition is about more than
showcasing work, it is about recognising the breadth of talent and affirming our
commitment to support and nurture it, and to offer a platform where emerging
artists can be seen, supported and encouraged to take creative risks. We want
to shine a light on this talent to ensure it thrives.’

Edge of matter invites audiences to engage with art that resonates emotionally,
intellectually, breaking traditional boundaries and embracing experimentations
in form, medium and message.
