Verity James is a painter who communicates a sense of solitude within a place. Currently based in the Scottish Borders, she draws from sketchbooks filled during walks and travels, translating immediate observations into evocative paintings that explore themes of finding comfort in a space, often rural, sometimes urban or domestic.

Previous Experience

Following a degree in Fine Art at Bath Spa University Verity has continued to paint and it is now her full time practice. Verity’s painting “Mine” was acquired by Chippenham Museum for their Modern and Contemporary Art Collection (2024). She has exhibited at Number Four Gallery, St Abbs (2023), the 117th Annual Exhibition of Bath Society of Artists (2022), Bath Contemporary Art Fair (2023, 2022), Open Studios Peacock Arts Trail (2023), Borders Art Fair, Kelso (2023,24, 25 and 2026), and Site Festival, Stroud (2021). She is also included in All Day Long: Portraits of Bath at Work at the Museum of Bath at Work in Bath2. Her paintings are in private collections in Australia, Taiwan, USA and Europe.
