Pretsch

Disciplines: Printmaking

Materials: Acrylic, Etching, Monoprint, Paper, Relief Print, Screenprinting
Ursula Pretsch is an Edinburgh based visual artist who, over the last year, has been adding painting to her creative practice of fine art printmaking. With no formal art education, learning from master printers during an internship at Edinburgh Printmakers in 2015 awoke a technical interest across all printmaking processes which has evolved from photographic imagery into a more painterly approach. Her residency at the Spitsbergen Artists Centre in 2024 prompted Ursula to concentrate on expressive mark making in her monotypes and to explore acrylics and mixed media techniques. Selected paintings were shown alongside her fine art prints in Ursula’s exhibition “Polar” at Marchmont Gallery in 2025. Ursula’s work explores the impact of human intervention on wildlife and our natural environment, depicting images of natural beauty side by side with man-made, industrial structures, thereby examining the sustainability of ‘modern’ life.
