Susan

Bedford

Disciplines: Textiles & Fibre

Location: Peterhead

Materials: Acrylic, Embroidery, Paper, Stitched
Born in Derbyshire and now living in Aberdeenshire, the coastline and skies of the beautiful east coast of Scotland are a constant source of inspiration to Susan. Her process begins with her photography to which she responds by creating her vibrant, mixed media textiles outcomes. Tactile qualities are created using a range of media and techniques including hand painted fabrics, machine stitching and heat manipulation. To complete her artworks she sometimes deconstructs discarded fishing ropes that she has collected from Cruden Bay beach and stitches them into the surface. Susan creates wall art and sustainable art cards using the offcuts from her artworks. Her ongoing collection, ‘Moments in Time’ is a series of circular artworks depicting the skies and coastline of Aberdeenshire and Moray. Susan splits her time between working in her studio, getting involved in projects as a freelance creative practitioner and teaching Art & Design. She has taught at secondary level for over twenty years with the addition of primary level since 2021 and also delivers workshops to adults. She loves to enthuse others and encourage them on their own art journey.
