I am a British dark conceptual surrealist photographer. I create otherworldly scenes within my work to explore themes of ecological revolution, the lure of nature and people’s innate call for escapism. The work is dark yet soft, as are many of the creatures invented and featured in my world. Showcasing particular species and environments through personification and the emotive windows of my models, I illuminate on many environmental issues. The work brings people closer to nature and helps them develop an emotional connection to the environment. I aim to enthrall viewers with a dreamy world that is both tangible yet melancholy, while providing viewers a space for reflection. Having an MSc in Biological Sciences and Conservation, and working in the ecology and insect research industries has provided daily exposure to the magic and strangeness of life and a regular reminder of the most impactful conservation issues we face. This encourages me to reach for the bizarre and use organic material to convey ecological messaging through my creativity. The medium of creative direction, photography and digital manipulation is my chosen method of transforming real-world elements into artworks that stretch the boundaries of reality while delivering powerful, story-driven messages.
