Disciplines: Mixed Media

Materials: Paper Cutting, Woven
The gift of a camera in my teens led me to photography and an ongoing fascination with the medium’s ability to capture light to share stories. I am never more at home than when I have a camera in my hands. Decades of photographic work and experimenting with breaking ‘the rules’ of photography inform my current practice, as I search for different ways to use photography to construct alternative narratives. Traditionally weaving serves a structural, functional purpose as well as a decorative one. In my work the intention of the weaving is to disrupt the structure of the photographic print amplifying the energy, flow and tension within the image. I take photographs whilst cold water swimming, and through weaving and collaging photographic prints I invite the viewer to share different experiences of being in the water; from the psychological and physiological effects to the sense of connection to people, place and the environment.
