Gibson

In my practice, I explore Scotland’s past, looking at our relationship with language, community, and the land as well as ancient crafts once passed down through generations, now facing extinction. I am drawn to telling stories; particularly those of our past, our folk tales, the story of our ancestors, communities, and the story we can write for the future. My work takes on different forms. I am inspired by the versatility and tactility of Scotland’s wilderness and incorporate this into my work by often working outdoors, filming, painting, and sound-recording. I experiment with the historic practice of developing dyes and inks from lichen and plants which I then combine with contemporary mediums of film and audio bringing the wild into the heart of the work.
