Rhona

Petrie

Rhona graduated from Edinburgh College of Art in 2009 with a BA in Combined Studies (Art and Design). She designs and creates jewellery and is dividing her time now between making jewellery and painting. Rhona utilises traditional techniques to make elegant, contemporary jewellery in Sterling silver and particularly enjoys hand saw piercing to create intricate patterns in the metal and fabricating custom fittings for her jewellery to complement the designs. She also enjoys making hinged pieces such as lockets and small objects. Rhona’s jewellery is influenced by a variety of sources including colours and textures found in nature and architectural detail. She uses recycled sterling silver with occasional 18ct gold. Her jewellery includes the addition of ethically sourced gemstones in many of her pieces. Rhona has been working from her green roofed studio in the garden of her home in East Lothian since 2023. Having her own workspace has enabled her to dedicate much more time to her creative practice, enabling her to once again show and sell her work and take part in a variety of local craft fairs Rhona has been a member of Visual Arts Scotland for several years although only started applying to exhibit again in 2024 and had two pieces of jewellery accepted for the exhibition which was held at the Scottish Ornithologists Club from August 2024. Rhona has undertaken commissions and has her work hallmarked at the Edinburgh Assay Office.
