I have the trees to thank for inspiring the imagery in my work as when I soften my gaze upon their forms through the lens of pareidolia I see the richest gathering of large and small beings. Although some may look sweet and some more intimidating, their narrative is always of unity, unconditional love and friendship. My ideas have evolved naturally through etching to more recently settling on monotype, the most painterly of the printmaking techniques. With different tools has comes a shift in the mark making and scale of the imagery where instead of describing a gathering of trees, the focus is more on one or a few. Weaving the message from the trees into each piece of work I make enriches the creation of my own mythology. I received my BA Hons in Fine Art from Grays’s School of Art and presently live in the Highlands of Scotland. I exhibit internationally and have undertaken collaborations with visual artist Erlend Tait; the writer Douglas Thompson with our illustrated novella ‘Oneironauts’ in 2022 supported by Creative Scotland; and also in 2022 created an illustrated lyric book for the band Belle & Sebastian. Every art sale I match by purchasing a tree for a re-wilding project in the Highlands as a thank you to those leafy giants, for what they have given me and will continue to give to our future.
