McGuire

I walk alone in wild places noticing both tiny details and the whole land/seascape . I move in and out both physically and in my mind. Seeing both. Holding both. I am immersed, alone but not. Art, like walking, is an exploration. It can feel euphoric or fearful, frustrating or profound. Is full of choice and accident, decision and procrastination but essentially discovery. I feel alive. I document with photography, sketching, collecting and mapping. Returning to the studio I make groups of work that relate to each other using different media. Drawing, painting, mapmaking and 3D objects from collected materials. The places I walk drive the artwork. In mapping those walks in various ways, I return myself to the feeling of being there. Immersed in the work as I was at the ocean. I have an MA and BA Fine Art having returned to university while bringing up 3 children. I taught on Foundation, Access and BTec courses for a number of years before becoming a full time artist, showing and selling work nationally.
