My art practice is rooted in the tradition of observation, and representation, which comes from my time studying at Gray’s School of Art. My aim is to capture the essence of a place or space in a painterly way, with light being central to everything I do. I trained as an oil painter but four years ago I tried soft pastel and instantly fell in love with its immediacy, and ability, to straddle the realm of both drawing and painting. Living in central Aberdeenshire, I am surrounded by beautiful landscape. That said I often return to the quiet corners around my home, the same trees, rivers and fields where there is both familiarity and freshness to discover each time.
