Maria Muruaga is a contemporary multidisciplinary artist based in Aberdeen, whose practice centres on porcelain and photography. A graduate of Gray’s School of Art, Robert Gordon University, she works with material and image to explore themes of connection, belonging, memory, and healing. Her approach often draws on ancestral codes and antique photographic processes, weaving together personal and collective narratives. Since 2024, Maria has developed communal sculpture projects that invite participation and dialogue, creating spaces where art becomes a shared act of imagination. In 2025 she was awarded the Outer Space Exhibition Award for her innovative, community‑engaged practice. Alongside her studio work, she facilitates inclusive workshops and collaborative initiatives, fostering environments where creativity builds community and resilience. She is currently leading a large‑scale communal sculpture commissioned by Aberdeen City Council, culminating in 2026, and will extend her practice internationally with participation in the Eindhoven Art Fair in the Netherlands in 2026.
