Lada Wilson is an artist, curator and educator. She gained a MFA Art, Society and Publics at DJCAD in 2014. Her artworks reference contemporary interactions between humans, nature and the world at large. The reconfiguration of space, often not a white-cube gallery, is as much her work as the artwork in it. By merging the roles of artist, curator and collector, Lada creates carefully staged, mixed-media installations that draw on the conventions of historical archives and exhibition-making. She seeks social engagement through collaborations and critical dialogue. The juxtaposition of her personal narrative, often expressed using different languages, and her sculptural interpretations creates a new sense, a new experience. The notion of the path is pertinent to Lada’s thinking as it relates to the paths she personally took when migrating from her native Croatia to Scotland, through the Netherlands and Spain. Lada founded the 201 Telephone Box Gallery: a contemporary art gallery in a disused telephone box in Strathkinness, near St Andrews in Fife. In her practice as artist-curator she curates contemporary art exhibitions, by national and international artists, with an aim to be collaborations between the artist, curator and local community. In the past few years, this little gallery has become an incubator for ideas, enabling Lada to instigate larger international projects and artists exchanges, such as her recent projects ‘discoveRED’ in Kyoto, Japan and ‘O…range’ in Valencia, Spain.
