Kyubean is a visual artist and curator based in Glasgow, working across painting, drawing, printmaking, and weaving. Her work is formed from visually recording her observations and experiences of her immediate surroundings and environment, finding inspiration from people, stories, memory, objects, nature, time and colour around her. She is interested in the process of physically creating using her hands, the process of deciding how to create, and the physical act of painting. Her working process often begins from drawing from life, walking, finding shapes, colours, taking photographs, gathering images and objects she is drawn to. Kyubean was born in South Korea and grew up in Nottingham, UK. She studied Painting and Printmaking at Glasgow School of Art and graduated in 2023. Her project ‘TIME 2021 – 2023’ was shortlisted for the Global Design Graduate Show 2023. She co-founder N. atelier, a cafe and art space, in October 2024 and has since hosted 16 exhibitions, 7 of which she has curated, showcasing works from over 90 UK and internationally based artists.
