My art practice centres on the unique properties of egg tempera, a medium I began exploring in 2023 through traditional methods on gesso boards, panels, and paper. At the core of my artistic practice is an exploration of the complex interplay between historical techniques and contemporary materials, guided by a quest to unravel the narrative potential of unconventional surfaces. Since then, my practice has evolved to incorporate new approaches, including painting on air- dry clay surfaces. For me, process and materiality are central, with each work developing through an ongoing dialogue between construction and painting. I frequently incorporate recycled and unconventional materials, ranging from discarded packaging to dog hair and sheep’s wool, which I’ve collected over time. These elements often carry personal resonance, such as the dog hair felt sourced from my late dog, Einstein. By using these materials, I aim to infuse my work with layers of meaning. Each item brings its own history and tactile qualities, influencing not only the aesthetic value but also the conceptual depth of my creations. For instance, personal items such as Einstein’s fur transform the artwork into an intimate tribute. Such choices highlight the intimate conversations that shape my practice, where material becomes both a formal and emotional catalyst, deepening the viewer’s engagement with the work.
