Jaya Cauchy is a visual artist and educator with a process-led practice across media based in Midlothian, Scotland. Her practice engages with contemporary issues through a post-postmodern lens, drawing on romantic colourist traditions and intuitive processes to explore states of in-between-ness — emotional, social, and environmental. Working primarily through painting and drawing, Jaya’s work sits between abstraction and representation, using colour, gesture, and layered surfaces as a form of visual thinking. Her practice is responsive rather than declarative, offering space for reflection, care, and connection at a time of ongoing uncertainty. Alongside her studio work, she has over 25 years’ experience in arts education and community-based practice, where she develops inclusive creative outputs that respond to lived experience and support wider participation in the visual arts. She holds an MA and BA in Fine Art from the University of Sunderland.
