Helen Johnson is a British contemporary landscape artist whose vibrant abstract and semi-abstract paintings celebrate the restorative power of nature. Drawing inspiration from gardens, rivers, coastlines and wild landscapes across the UK and France, her work explores the relationship between people and the natural world through expressive colour, dynamic mark-making and layered composition. Working in acrylic and oil, Helen combines traditional painting techniques with mixed media, often incorporating natural materials and found elements to create richly textured surfaces. Her practice is informed by an ongoing fascination with sacred geometry, natural pattern and the hidden structures that connect landscapes, plants and people. Through these visual rhythms she seeks to capture not only the appearance of a place, but its atmosphere, energy and emotional resonance. A former Head Teacher and qualified teacher of art, Helen now paints and teaches full-time, sharing her passion for creativity through exhibitions, workshops and online courses. Her work is rooted in close observation, with each collection emerging from time spent sketching and immersing herself in locations that inspire reflection, wellbeing and connection. Helen holds a BA (Hons) in Visual Art and Art History and an MA in Contemporary Fine Art Practice. She is the winner of the VAA Art International 100 Award and has been recognised by Saatchi Art through both Curator’s Choice and curated artist selections. Through her optimistic use of colour and form, Helen invites viewers to pause, reconnect with nature and experience the joy, hope and wonder found within the landscape.
