MacFarlane

HHeather Macfarlane is a multi-media fibre artist is based outside of Pencaitland , East Lothian where with her family co creates a craft and culinary business – A Croft Creative ,homage to their cottage called Jerusalem Croft Trained in Tapestry and Printmaking at Edinburgh Collage of Art , her artistic career evolved to environmental/eco arts where with her partner ran a creative recycled design company, event décor and gallery for over 25 years in New Orleans , Louisiana ,also studying glass working and Art Education . After her return to Scotland a few years ago she began creating one of kind textile art using elements of free motion embroidery and hand painting taking inspiration from her Scottish heritage and local environment ; also while teaching Adult Education and running her own series of art and craft workshops. . Her passion for all things natural and fibre build then led her to explore the endangered heritage craft of brush and broom making , after receiving a VACMA grant from Creative Scotland / East Lothian Council she was then able to further her brush making skills and study the history of this craft with particular reference to using traditional plant fibres such as heather , broom and birch ; currently developing and researching various styles and native plant fibres .
