Godspower Okoro is a Nigerian multidisciplinary visual artist working across painting, drawing, printmaking, photography, sculpture and mixed media. His practice explores identity, memory, belonging, spirituality and the relationship between people, culture and place. Born and raised in Lagos and originally from Imo State, Nigeria, Okoro’s work is informed by the intersection of his heritage, upbringing and belonging. He draws on Igbo and Yoruba cosmologies, folklore, indigenous knowledge and personal experience, combining abstraction, symbolism and figurative elements to explore how cultural histories and memories are inherited, transformed and preserved. His work also engages with contemporary social and environmental concerns, using layered surfaces, fragmented imagery and material experimentation to create visual narratives that invite reflection and multiple interpretations. Okoro has exhibited in Nigeria, the UK and internationally, including Spain and Switzerland. He holds an MA in Fine Art with Distinction from Gray’s School of Art, Robert Gordon University, and is a recipient of the RGU Arts and Heritage Purchase Award. Now based in Scotland, he continues to develop a practice connecting African cultural knowledge with contemporary experience, exploring how identity and memory evolve across places and generations.
