Materials: Wheel Thrown

IG @springfieldclaystation

My ceramics are mainly functional and I now design and alter wheel thrown work to best show the way fire and ash can “paint” a vessel in a wood fire kiln. I have helped build 2 kilns recently and taken part in many different wood firings. The unique results on each makers pots and the community involved in the firing process become part of the overall results. Ideally the energy of the whole making and firing process transmits to the user of the beaker, mug, bowl or plate. Geology and metamorphic movements influence my making. I aim to make others curious about the landscape and its influence on the creative process, whether directly by using local clays or tangentially through shapes and design references.
