As a Nigerian-born gay man, identity for me was always confusing and belonging felt like a dream I will never be able to achieve. Losing my sense of self before life even properly began meant living false personas, always having to bend myself into the shape of whatever others or society wanted me to be, all to protect and conceal my real self. Now living in Glasgow, I explore the concepts of Identity and Culture through ceramics, interior design and art. Having had no formal training, I started making ceramics in 2025 to offer a tactile means of stress release, the creativity that ensued is something I have come to identify with integrally. I hand build ceramic objects of art by coiling and slab building, these objects are highly tactile, graphic and blend function and form. All my creations are intention-led, blending and weaving stories that are important to me, but resonate with most people, regardless of culture or background. My objective as a designer is to offer an insight into a way of living that blends cultures and identities rather than supress or supplant them, with this synthesis comes a beautiful, new and personal form of art expression.
