Emma
Boyd
Raised in the Scottish countryside, surrounded by the remnants of Roman occupation and steeped in the folklore of legendary figures like Rob Roy and mythical creatures such as the Kelpie, Boyd has always felt a strong connection to nature and history. These influences naturally manifest in her work, as she seeks to weave together themes of land, heritage, and myth. Boyd is drawn to the rich tapestry of early settlements and the industrial imprints on the landscape. Her exploration of these layers is deeply personal, informed by her early immersion in geology, thanks to her father. Boyd’s artwork often integrates geological elements and materials directly from the landscape, serving as both metaphorical and physical links between past and present. With a robust background in both art and education, Boyd brings a unique, research-driven perspective to each piece. Her work is characterised by meticulous attention to meaning through hidden symbology, to evoke both narrative and emotion. On particularly blustery days Boyd enjoys exploring her playful side in the studio, drawing inspiration from her beloved hound for a series of works. She also creates dynamic collages using images from vintage magazines, bringing a sense of spontaneity and joy to her creative process.
