My practice explores the wilderness through themes of connection and memento mori, emphasising an awareness of the cycles that bind us to the earth. Rooted in the landscapes of Dumfries and Galloway, I engage with places that hold memory and reflection, using landscape as a way to process and understand both my inner world and the world around me. I work primarily with raw, elemental materials; stones, bones, wild clay and earth gathered locally and used with minimal processing. This traditional, hands-on approach allows me to explore the emotional weight materials carry and how they can reflect personal and collective experiences of transformation. Each work is made with care and slowness, honouring the rhythms of the land and the stories held within it. Through painting, photography and sound, I explore grief, memory, impermanence and renewal. In 2024, grief stepped into my work, and through making I began to understand it not only as loss, but as a form of connection and transformation. Nature became a way of understanding the cycles of decay and renewal that hold space for both endings and beginnings. I aim to create contemplative works and environments that invite viewers to pause, reflect and reconnect with themselves through memory, material and place.
