Dianne Tanner is a visual artist based in the North West of England, where she dreams of rugged coastlines and remote islands. Gathering feelings and stories from coastlines, communities, geology and wildlife in written word and found-object form on regular visits North, she combines and transforms what she has gleaned into surreal, dream-like paintings using richly coloured gouache. Born in the 80’s and raised close to nature on a farm in Aotearoa New Zealand, her concern and curiosity around the natural world and its more-than-human inhabitants has been lifelong. Her work combines this fascination with landscapes, colour and symbolism alongside inspiration from alchemy, magical practice and folklore to create portals that transport us to stillness and hold space for big feelings. When she is not painting birds or collecting bones on beaches, Dianne can be found wild swimming, turning her garden into a haven for wildlife and teaching herself how to weave baskets. And probably planning her next adventure North.
