Campbell

I studied printed textiles at Glasgow School of Art and since then textiles has continued to be an important element of my artistic expression and how I interpret the coastal landscape of Scotland. The inspiration for my work lies in the remote coastal locations around Scotland where I study & record the landscape and birdlife that inhabits that environment. I create intricate fine art textiles using a selection of hand printing methods onto fabric. I work onto organza and gauze to give me the option to layer fabrics and create depth of colour and pattern. Which I then collage and combine using free motion machine embroidery as my drawing tool.

Disciplines: Textiles & Fibre

Location: Kilmacolm

Materials: Acrylic, Embroidery, Lino Print, Monoprint, Relief Print, Stitched

Previous Experience

I have been working as a full time artist since graduating with a BA Hons Degree in Printed Textile Design from Glasgow School of Art in 1987. My career has spanned over 40 years. After graduating I worked as a freelance artist collaborating with architects and designers throughout the UK on many commercial interior design projects. Community engagements and residencies have also played a part in my practice working as an art specialist on many projects with schools and communities often in partnership with businesses. I offer workshops and summer schools and have worked with Fibre Arts Australia to deliver workshops in Tasmania and Melbourne. Throughout my career I have worked continuously as a mixed media and textile artist creating work for exhibitions and events throughout Scotland.
