Dritschel

Location: Dundee

Materials: Carving, Silver
My creative practice focuses on crafting distinctive, meaningful jewellery inspired by the complexity and beauty of nature. Each piece is envisioned as a narrative object, intended to cultivate a profound connection with the natural world while engaging with pressing issues such as environmental degradation and the necessity of environmental preservation. I aim for my work to function as modern amulets, serving as powerful symbols that honour the planet and encourage renewed appreciation for its delicate beauty. I love pushing the boundaries of my practice, blending traditional skills with cross-disciplinary approaches and unconventional materials. This gives me freedom to experiment with scale and form, pairing precious metals with alternative materials to challenge what we see as valuable. Most recently, I’ve been exploring biomaterials in my jewellery, which brings new possibilities and shifts the narrative about objects in our lives. The impermanence of these pieces invites us to rethink how we value and care for things that do not last, celebrating their aliveness and prompting us to reconsider what jewellery can be. Ultimately, my work is a playful response to the challenges we face, seeking to spark new perspectives and encourage a move from extractive to regenerative making.
