Amanda

Stewart

Amanda Stewart is a Glasgow-based artist working in mixed media, primarily acrylic on wood. Her practice draws on folklore, natural forms, and occult symbolism, exploring spaces where myth and lived experience begin to blur. Working on wood as both surface and object, Stewart creates layered compositions that feel grounded yet otherworldly. Her work centres on symbolic forms and motifs drawn from nature – creatures, textures, and fragments of narrative. Influenced by mythic traditions and the esoteric, her paintings explore the tension between the seen and unseen. Figures and forms emerge from textured surfaces as though conjured or uncovered, suggesting stories that are felt as much as they are seen. Stewart’s background in illustration continues to inform her approach to image-making across both traditional and contemporary media.
