Drawing is

an act of defiance
an act of risk
an act of trust
an act of care

A simple act

an act of truth
an act of connection
an act of will
an act of sympathy

A meditative act

an act of presence
an act of skill
an act of delight
an act of reflection

A revolutionary act

I have a long-held aesthetic interest in modernism, minimaliam and abstraction. My recent series of drawings 'Safe in the open' are based upon native wildflowers found growing around my flat in Inverness. Returning from a shared studio to work at home, my creative eye soon turned to the flaura and fauna immediately surrounding where I live.

With an intuitive approach based in observation and listening, I look into the plants and aim to capture their inner being, design and unique character. I have an understanding of sacred geometry and mandalas and work with graph paper as a geometric foundation.

This is a slow, calm, quiet process I prefer to practice outdoors.

These drawings are my homage to natural phenomena in their infinitely curious design, beauty and detail, often found hiding right under our noses.
