I make figurative work with an underlying element of abstraction. To be in the studio, in the moment, to splash down colour, make lines and produce forms is a response to the history of painting and an antidote to the overwhelming stream of news and information in which we live. Like someone who works a patch of ground, I feel I work my surface to grow structures, make food for the eye and perhaps reach other parts too.
