Neo Hanna is a Scottish sculptor, curator and socially engaged artist based in Glasgow. Examining the relationship between the ancient and the modern, and the ever-present feedback loop within history, their practice is influenced by scholars, authors, theologians and archaeologists whose investigations of ancient worlds are revealed through both linguistic analysis and material excavation.
Hanna’s relationship to fabrication and material is intrinsic to their methodology and guides the direction of their practice through an exploration of authenticity, the passage of time and the notion of antiquity. Their work blends a visual language of classical form, liminal object and museum artefact with the aim of embedding the viewer in a feedback loop of personal reality, informed by the past and indicative of an imagined future.
They also create public engagement programmes for arts organisations and local authorities such as the Remembering Together Covid Memorial Project for South Lanarkshire, and Artist in Residence for North Lanarkshire Country Parks.
Hanna was recently shortlisted for the Inches Carr Award and has exhibited throughout Scotland including with: &Gallery, The MacLaurin Art Gallery, Perth Museum, Alchemy Experiment, Visual Art Scotland, Fife Contemporary and the Meffan Museum and Gallery.
