  • Biography
Monica Findlay is a Glasgow based silversmith/jeweller making tactile objects inspired by her curiosity for the 'material past'.

Monicas ongoing body of work is titled 'Traces' and aims to explore tangible traces left behind, beyond living memory. In this collection, archaeological wirework styles are delicately reworked to encourage a closer look, and embossed traces hint at passing objects that once were in contact with the surface. Drawing inspiration from both personal and cultural artefacts, the maker manipulates precious and non-precious materials to mimic and enhance temporal effects, resulting in objects with a particular depth of character.

Monica's objective as a maker is to extend curiosity to the viewer and create artefacts that seem distant yet familiar, causing observers to experience a sense of nostalgia upon interaction.
