My landscapes are haunting and dramatic. Texture and intense lighting effects interact with striking abstracted images of sky, sea and land. I have developed my approach to landscape painting over the past twenty years using multiple layers of oil paint, thickeners and glazes. I am particularly interested in capturing the changing nature of light’s interaction with the landscape. I love playing with texture and will often build up the painted surface several centimeters in depth.
By manipulating the canvas in this way I control the translucency and density of pigments. The canvass is often reworked repeatedly, introducing new textures and tones. Often, I will then apply a mixture of mediums to the oil paint to further extend the latitude of textures and glazes.
