My work is driven by the balance of shapes and lines; however, the visual elements of colour are the life source in my tapestries. The power of colour in my work creates clashing and layering that when woven has a unique visual effect. It is this density and vividness that creates feeling when viewing my work and this is what is so important to me in my drive to make textiles an art form.
Hand woven Tapestry is time consuming, but it is a process that fills me with calm and a great sense of purpose. Lockdown allowed me time and space to restart my practice after a substantial break and I love it. I have recently been awarded the VACMA bursary and I am looking forward to developing my practice further using different techniques on the loom that I will be learning from my mentor.
My work is vibrant and colourful. I am a traditional Tapestry weaver using an upright scaffold loom. Initially I paint on paper to create my designs. These are then translated into my work using cotton, wool, linen, acrylic and more.
My scaffolding loom produces work that can be woven horizontally or vertically in discontinuous weft to form the image from my painting.
