I am inspired all the time by the land where I live and where I visit – the landscapes and the seascapes. The changes I see and the elements I feel alongside the connections I experience whilst walking within it. I create my shapes and colours onto paper using paint or print. This forms the initial process which is the design for my tapestry. I then warp up onto my scaffolding loom, choose my yarns that relate to my painting, and I then begin my weaving. My work is abstract but looking closer I can see the shapes and structures of both landscapes and seascapes. Tapestry is one of the oldest forms of woven textiles and it is important to me to continue this ancient craft. I sit on my bench and my weft weaves in and out and is pushed down firmly to cover the warps. This calms me and fills me with a sense of wellness as I start to see my design appearing before me.
