I am a visual artist based on the Black Isle in the Scottish Highlands, working primarily with painting and collage. I make constructed landscapes using found imagery, drawings made from observation and landscapes reconstructed from memory. I combine collaged, torn and crumpled paper, cardboard, scrap wood and tape with watercolour, acrylic, charcoal and pencil, experimenting with materials to build and rework my paintings and collages. Recent work questions romantic ideas of wild and untouched landscapes, particularly within the Scottish Highlands, where environments perceived as natural have been profoundly altered through centuries of management, extraction and ecological control.
