My work is inspired by the theme of Collections; the objects that cluster on our shelves and windowsills, a treasured collection of related objects, interesting exhibits in a museum display case. In my still life painting I aim to create well balanced compositions that echo these arrangements, evoke nostalgic memories and portray the connections I have made with people and places. My interest in combining realism with stylisation and pattern extends to my landscape paintings, all of which are developed from observed drawings of familiar scenes.
After graduating from Edinburgh College of Art I qualified as a teacher of art and design. During my career in art education I continued to develop and refine my own ideas and practices and now concentrate on painting full time.
