I identify keenly with interdisciplinary practice and immersive media, I find form through site specific installation, sound, narrative and large scale moving image works. At times the work is necessarily self asserting, loud or colourful and at others, utterly elusive. I explore the self, identity and emotion through an ongoing distrust of society and neoliberalism. The work is an urgent inquiry into the paradigms of language, communication and speculation, underpinned by the artificial reality in which we live. As I grapple with the current socio political environment and my own overwhelm, the work offers space for contemplation, escapism and critique. Theoretical research, personal experience and narrative are key — without such narratives, we fall, we are falling, into mental illness, the critical condition of our time as neoliberalism prescribes a failing set of guidelines to live by. I am not a digital native: “Capitalist realism, is there no alternative?” (Mark Fisher)
I cite Lindsay Seers, Melanie Gilligan, Susan Philipsz, Rachel Maclean, Bob and Roberta Smith, Arlie Russell Hochschild, Donna Haraway, Kris Kraus, Mark Fisher as key influences.
